Monash University
Monash University is a public university that was founded in 1958. It is named after Sir John Monash, an Australian military leader and engineer, and is located in the state of Victoria in southeastern Australia. The Clayton campus, the largest of the university's five Australian locations, is located about 12 miles southeast of Melbourne, Victoria's capital city. Monash University also has a Malaysian branch campus, a graduate school in China run in collaboration with Southeast University, and several other affiliated international sites.
The Sunway campus's faculties of Arts and Social Sciences, Business, Engineering, Information Technology, Medicine and Health Sciences, Pharmacy, and Science offer a variety of undergraduate degrees. Monash University announced in August 2013 that it had formed a partnership that would allow its South African presence to expand and improve its educational offerings. The collaboration is with the Laureate International Universities. The Southeast University-Monash University Joint Graduate School is the first Australian university to be granted a license to operate in China, and only the third foreign university. The school offers master's degrees and PhDs in science and engineering, with the first cohort of 500 students expected to grow to 2000 in the coming years.
