University of Western Australia

The University of Western Australia (UWA) is an Australian public research university located in the state of Western Australia. The main campus of the university is in Perth, the state capital, with a secondary campus in Albany and various other facilities located throughout the state. The University of Western Australia was established in 1911 by an act of the Western Australian Parliament and began teaching students two years later. It is Australia's sixth-oldest University and served as the sole university in Western Australia until the establishment of Murdoch University in 1973. Because of its age and reputation, UWA is considered one of the "sandstone universities", an informal designation is given to each state's oldest university.

The majority of UWA students are school leavers from Western Australia, primarily from the Perth metropolitan area. Mature-age students make up a smaller proportion of the student body. In recent years, the proportion of full-fee-paying foreign students, primarily from South East Asia, has increased as a percentage of the student population. The university had 4,373 international students enrolled in 2020, out of a total student body of 18,717.
