Dar Es Salaam
Dar es Salaam, located on the Swahili coast of Tanzania, is an important economic center and one of the world's fastest-growing cities. Majid bin Said, the first Sultan of Zanzibar, founded the town in 1865 or 1866. It served as the administrative and commercial hub for German East Africa, Tanganyika, and Tanzania. It is the capital of Tanzania's co-extensive Dar es Salaam Region, which consists of five districts: Kinondoni in the north, Ilala in the center, Ubungo and Temeke in the south, and Kigamboni in the east across the Kurasini estuary.
Dar es Salaam, one of East Africa's largest cities, is lively and bustling. Tourists can get a glimpse of Tanzanian urban life by visiting modern buildings, shopping and bargaining in bustling marketplaces, and visiting bustling town squares. The national museum is a must-see because it provides insight into the country's culture and history. Guests can visit the lush botanical gardens, the historical Askari monument, which pays tribute to World War One soldiers, or the cathedral, which has beautiful architecture. Visitors can also visit nearby Coco Beach and Mbudya Island, which provide scenic views of crystalline water, soft white sands, swaying palm trees, glorious sunsets, and greenery.
