Dodoma
Dodoma is one of Tanzania's most beautiful coastal towns. Tanzania's government announced in 1974 that the capital would be relocated to Dodoma for social and economic reasons, as well as to centralize the capital within the country. Much of the original design was not realized for a long time. As a result, Dar es Salaam remains Tanzania's commercial capital, with the state house Ikulu and a large number of government functions remaining.
Dodoma is Tanzania's political capital, and it houses the majority of the country's official buildings and government ministries. Guests can visit the historic Nyerere square and stroll through the park. They can visit the stunning Gaddafi mosque, which is pink in color and can accommodate up to 4500 worshippers! They can also go to the Jamatkhana Ismaili mosque, which is designed in a neoclassical British style! Beautiful landmarks include the domed Anglican church, the modernist Lutheran cathedral, and the massive Catholic Cathedral, which features Roman-style mosaics depicting saints! Hiking up to a series of caves carved into a hillside is possible. The famous Kondoa Irangi rock paintings, which are said to be over 50000 years old, can be seen here. Ancient Kolo rock paintings can be found on the 150-450 decorated rocks.
