Iringa

Iringa is a Tanzanian town with a population of 151,345 people. The name is derived from the Hehe word living, which means "fortification." It serves as the administrative center of the Iringa Region. Due to its geographical location, Iringa has been one of Tanzania's coldest regions, but this has attracted a large number of tourists from colder regions abroad, particularly Western Europe. Iringa is known for its woven baskets, made from local reeds. The baskets are used across Tanzania and exported internationally. The city is also known for its award-winning Neema Crafts Centre.

Iringa, in southern Tanzania, is a pleasant town. Ruaha National Park, one of Africa's largest, is also located on Iringa. To the south, the town stretches along a hilltop overlooking the Little Ruaha River, and to the north, it spreads along ridges and valleys. Tourists can interact with friendly locals. They can visit Commonwealth War Graves from the first and second world wars. Another popular destination for them to visit is the Isimila Stone Age Site, an archaeological site with up to 10m tall sandstone pillars. The museum houses 60,000 - 100,000-year-old stone age tools as well as prehistoric animal fossils and bones!
