Hammond Castle

As a wedding gift for his wife Irene and to house his collection of Roman, Renaissance, and medieval antiquities, John Hays Hammond, Jr., also known as "The Father of Remote Control," constructed his castle between 1926 and 1929.

John Hammond, Jr.
had over 800 invention ideas and more than 400 patents, making him the second-most prolific inventor after Thomas Edison. Visitors to the castle can take a self-guided tour that includes the great hall, the Renaissance dining room, two guest bedrooms, the chamber where innovations are displayed, kitchens, the library, and other areas of the house.

On Gloucester's gorgeous shore, the Hammond Castle Museum is a priceless gem. The Museum is accessible for both guided and self-directed visits every day through the end of October and on weekends in November and December. The museum is not disability accessible despite being almost a century old.

For your special day, Hammond Castle Museum offers the most beautiful seaside setting. Say "I do" in our Great Hall's spaciousness or hug in front of our recognizable arches while taking in the expansive views of Gloucester Harbor.
