Hearst Castle
William Randolph Hearst's residence is one of California's top tourist destinations and one of the most breathtaking castles in the country. It is situated on the Central California coast. Hearst's "La Cuesta Encantada," or The Enchanted Hill in Spanish, was started in 1919 and was situated on more than 250,000 acres that William had inherited from his father, George Hearst.
Hearst previewed his newspaper every evening before it went to press in the Gothic Study, a room in his own apartment on the third floor. Gardens, swimming pools, and fountains cover 127 acres. For the consistently well-attended tours, reservations are advised.
