Oheka Castle
Oheka Castle, also known as the Otto Kahn Estate, is the last on our list of breathtaking castles in America. At the highest point of Long Island, New York, Otto Hermann Kahn, who served as the model for "Mr. Monopoly," had his French chateau-style estate constructed on 443 acres. The castle's name, which is an abbreviation of Mr. Kahn's name, is estimated to have cost $110 million in today's money. Covering 109,000 square feet are its 127 rooms.
The home saw a number of ownership changes after Mr. Kahn passed away in 1934, some of whom severely renovated and painted the rooms, completely erasing its former beauty. Vandals also started fires, which caused destruction. It was bought in 1984, meticulously repaired, and is now accessible to the public.
