Scotty's Castle
Even more fascinating than the house bearing his name is the legend surrounding Scotty's Castle, which is situated in Death Valley National Park, California. Albert Johnson, a wealthy businessman from Chicago, was duped out of at least a few grubstakes by Walter Scott, a showman and would-be gold prospector, on a gold mine that no one is even certain ever existed.
Johnson made the decision to travel to the west to learn more about Scott's plans and immediately fell in love with the bleak desolation of the desert. The amazing tale of friendship and deceit that followed his decision to construct his home there.
Although Walter Scott never actually resided in the castle, over the years, many visitors were led to assume that he did and that the Johnsons were his visitors. Among the fascinating sights you'll encounter during the guided tour are a self-playing pipe organ and piano.
