Hell's Paradise
As he awaits execution, the ninja Gabimaru the Hollow becomes despondent. Gabimaru feels he is deserving of death after a life filled with blood. Nevertheless, for some reason, every effort to have him executed always fails. In the end, the order to kill Gabimaru comes down to Sagiri Yamada Asaemon, a young member of a renowned clan of executioners, but Sagiri does not carry it out.
Sagiri gives Gabimaru the opportunity to get a full pardon instead of killing him, saying that he will not die for his wife. He will be liberated if he can go to Shinsekyo Island and get the Elixir of Life, which gives immortality, and return it to the shogun.
But no one has ever returned from Shinsekyo in good health, if at all, among the many who have ventured there in quest of the legendary Elixir. With the belief that he and his wife may finally live in peace, Gabimaru accepts the offer—along with ten other death row inmates—despite his ignorance of the many hazards that lie ahead.
