The noble vampire Jean Duchet Godard's wife is assassinated in the comfort of her own home in nineteenth-century France. Godard recruits Tsugaru Shinuchi and Aya Rindou, two private investigators renowned for their expertise in the supernatural, since the local human authorities are hesitant to conduct a thorough investigation. Shinuchi wears an enigmatic birdcage. Originating from distant Japan, this mysterious pair has a one objective: to apprehend the individual responsible for the abduction of Aya's physical form and Tsugaru's humanity.
