Howard's End (1992)
Howards End is a 1992 historical romantic drama film directed by James Ivory, based on the 1910 novel of the same name by E. M. Forster and based on a screenplay written by Ruth Prawer Jhabvala. Helen Schlegel has a crush on Paul Wilcox, but he rejects her. Margaret gets acquainted with his mother, who offers her Howards End, the family home. Unfortunately, the will is lost after her death, and it looks that the inheritance will be lost as well. Until Henry Wilcox, a widower sympathizes with Margaret.
Howards End premiered at the 1992 Cannes Film Festival, where it won the 45th Anniversary Award and competed for the Palme d'Or. The film received three Academy Awards, including Best Actress (for Thompson), Best Screenplay Based on Material Previously Produced or Published, and Best Art Direction at the 65th Academy Awards. At the 46th British Academy Film Awards, it won two awards: Best Film and Best Actress (for Thompson).
