King Lear (2018)
King Lear, a 2018 British-American television film directed by Richard Eyre, is a great adaptation of the well-known Shakespeare play of the same name. Hopkins portrays the title character, who divides his kingdom amongst his three daughters, Cordelia, Regan, and Goneril. Unfortunately, he gives them each a portion of the kingdom that he believes they have earned through their love for him, which means that Cordelia, who refused to flatter and soothe him, receives nothing. When Regan and Goneril gain power, they banish their father because they had never truly cared for him.
This film is a fantastic adaptation of Shakespeare's much-loved play. Hopkins' performance as King Lear is dramatic, forceful, and heartbreaking. Of course, because it is a Shakespeare play, there is a subplot, but it is also quite well done and interesting. Before the end of the film, your emotions will be in a state of upheaval.
