The Father (2020)
Anthony Hopkins' most recent film, The Father, is undoubtedly one of the actor's greatest performances, even at the age of 80. Anthony plays a dementia patient who refuses to accept what aging has done to him. Olivia Colman also shines as Anthony's daughter Anne, who tries everything she can to support her father through this difficult time in his life.
The Father made its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on January 27, 2020. It earned $28 million on a $6 million budget, and critics praised Hopkins and Colman's performances, as well as the film's production quality and portrayal of dementia. Hopkins won Best Actor at the 93rd Academy Awards, while Zeller and Hampton won Best Adapted Screenplay; the film garnered a total of six nominations, including Best Picture and Best Supporting Actress (Colman).
