The Silence of the Lambs (1991)
Dr. Hannibal Lector in Silence of the Lambs is by far Anthony Hopkins' greatest performance. The 1991 thriller/horror starring Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster is widely regarded as one of the best films ever produced. It stars Jodie Foster as Clarice Starling, a young FBI trainee on the search for "Buffalo Bill," a serial murderer who skins his female victims (Ted Levine). To capture him, she seeks the assistance of Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins), a brilliant psychiatrist and cannibalistic serial murderer who is now imprisoned.
Silence of the Lambs has several groundbreaking aspects of filmmaking that are unique to this film and its director, Jonathan Demme. Hopkins and Foster were nominated for their first Academy Awards for Best Actor and Best Actress, respectively, for their outstanding performances, as well as the film's Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay.
