Mount Elgon
Mount Elgon is Kenya's second-highest mountain and Africa's seventeenth highest. Mount Elgon is the oldest extinct volcano in East Africa, according to geologists. Although there is no verifiable evidence of its early volcanic activity, geologists estimate that it is at least 24 million years old. Mount Elgon is at a height of 4,321 meters. On the Kenya - Uganda border, it is an extinct shield volcano. Wagagai (14,177 feet), Sudek (14,114 feet), Koitobos (13,852 feet), Mubiyi (13,816 feet), and Masaba (13,652 feet) are the five prominent peaks on the mountain.
Other features of the mountain include a caldera, a warm-water spring, Endebess Bluff, and a number of caves. Mount Elgon serves as a water catchment area for the Suam, Nzoia, and Lwakhakha rivers. Romulea keniensis, Echinops hoehnelil, and Ardisiandra wettsteinii are among the plants that grow around the mountain.
