My Best Friend Anne Frank
Ben Sombogaart's drama film My Best Friend Anne Frank (Dutch: Mijn beste vriendin Anne Frank) was released in 2021. The film tells the story of Hanneli Goslar's relationship with Anne Frank, and it is told from Goslar's point of view. "A beautiful film about the friendship between Anne Frank and her friend Hannah. Do not care what others have voted down about the film, it is touching and sensitive and it will be difficult to keep the tears away."
The film is based on Anne Frank and Hannah Goslar's real-life relationship. Director Ben Sombogaart revealed that he visited the actual Goslar, who was in her nineties and lived in Israel, on a regular basis to hear her story. She pleaded with him to finish the film as soon as possible since she was in poor health and really wanted to see it before she passed away. Despite production delays caused by the COVID-19 crisis, Sombogaart was able to show Goslar and her family the final film, which they all enjoyed.
