Saving Private Ryan
Saving Private Ryan is a 1998 American epic war film written by Robert Rodat and directed by Steven Spielberg. The film, set during World Battle II's Invasion of Normandy, is known for its violent depiction of war, particularly its depiction of the Omaha Beach assault during the Normandy landings. The film follows Captain John H. Miller (Tom Hanks) and his team as they seek a paratrooper, Private first class James Francis Ryan (Matt Damon), the last surviving brother of four siblings who has all been killed in combat.
Saving Private Ryan has been regarded as one of the best and most influential films of the 1990s, as well as one of the greatest war films of all time, since its premiere. Because of its use of desaturated colors, hand-held cameras, and tight perspectives, it has been hailed as influential in the war and action film genres. Saving Private Ryan was named the 71st-greatest American film in the American Film Institute's 100 Years...100 Movies list in 2007 (10th Anniversary Edition).
