Pohang University of Science and Technology
Pohang University of Science and Technology, or POSTECH, is a private university that was established in 1986. The university focuses on science and engineering and is located in Pohang, South Korea, about 250 miles southeast of the capital city, Seoul. In the most recent academic year, over 3,000 students attended the university, with roughly 40% of them studying at the undergraduate level. International and domestic students pay the same tuition, and many POSTECH students receive university or government scholarships and grants. In addition, new international graduate students at POSTECH are given a settlement allowance during their first semester to assist with relocation costs. Undergraduate and graduate students can live in university student housing.
The university has academic divisions that are primarily concerned with science, engineering, and technology. In POSTECH classrooms, both Korean and English are spoken. In a recent year, English accounted for approximately 85 percent of courses that counted toward undergraduate and graduate majors. Students who want to brush up on their Korean language skills, on the other hand, can enroll in classes through the POSTECH Korean Language Program.
As one of the leading universities in Korea for international students, POSTECH admits many international students, especially at masters and doctorate levels. It also has close collaborations with global and local institutions with the same goal of innovation. For instance, POSTECH and KAIST host the annual Science War as a knowledge-exchange platform for students.
