Tell Me a Story: a Guide to Traditional Storytelling
A lost art that is making a comeback worldwide is oral storytelling. It used to be a valuable and important tradition that was carried down via families and communities. Important cultural information and wisdom were transmitted through the centuries through the use of stories.
This form of art has virtually vanished from our families and communities in the last century or so. With the use of tried-and-true story-learning strategies, Tell Me a Story will teach you the finer points of honing this age-old skill. These approaches will aid you in remembering the format and specifics of classic stories. The course provides opportunity for you to consider what prevents you from telling stories right now and to define the type of storyteller you want to be. You will be encouraged to delve deeper into the significance of the stories you choose to learn, developing a bond with them, claiming them as your own, and considering their "story medicine" benefits.
Together with theatrical director Silvia Lehmann, the course is instructed by Nicola-Jane le Breton, a creative writing instructor and arts facilitator who leads a narrative development project and monthly workshops in her hometown of Western Australia.
