The King
David Michôd's 2019 epic war film The King is a historical drama inspired by three plays from William Shakespeare's "Henriad,". Michôd and Joel Edgerton wrote the screenplay, and they also produced the film with Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, and Liz Watts.
Timothée Chalamet plays Hal, a wayward prince and reluctant heir to the English kingdom who has turned his back on royal life and is living among the people. When Hal's tyrant father dies, he is anointed King Henry V and forced to return to the life he had hoped to avoid. Now the young king must manage the palace intrigues, chaos, and conflict that his father left behind, as well as the emotional ties from his prior life, including his friendship and mentor, the aging alcoholic knight John Falstaff (Joel Edgerton).
