The Queen's Gambit

The Queen's Gambit is an American coming-of-age period drama streaming television miniseries set in the year 2020, based on Walter Tevis's 1983 novel of the same name. The title refers to the chess opening known as the "Queen's Gambit." Scott Frank wrote and directed the series, which he co-created with Allan Scott, who owns the book's rights. The plot follows Beth Harmon (Anya Taylor-Joy), a fictitious chess prodigy, as she rises to the top of the chess world while fighting drug and alcohol addiction.


On October 23, 2020, Netflix released The Queen's Gambit. It became Netflix's most-watched scripted miniseries after four weeks, making it the #1 show in 63 countries. The series got positive reviews, with praise for Taylor's performance, Joy's photography, and production qualities in particular.
