  4. If you just want to send a short eCard to someone and aren't concerned with having a lot of control over your card, Greetings Island is a wonderful place to start. You'll find a decent selection of cards that cover a wide range of festivities and occasions, and while you can't change the style of each one, you can fully customize the message inside and even add a photo to the inside front cover. If you wish to include a second message, you can write on the back of each card as well. For text, you have a good selection of fonts and colors to choose from.

The best part is that most of the designs on the site are free, so all you have to do is join up (with a very basic sign-in form) and you can send cards to anyone via email or Facebook. It's completely free, except unless you're a premium member, your cards will be watermarked. Premium is only a few bucks a month, so it's well worth it if you send a lot of eCards.

We've seen a lot more designs on other sites, and Greetings Island just can't compete with Canva. While this may appeal to some, many of the designs are 'traditional' in nature. Many of the jokes in the humor section, for example, were long forgotten.

There's also the ability to download and print cards, which is nice, though if we were printing cards, we'd definitely need specialized software. Even so, it's wonderful to have the choice. Overall, we like Greetings Island's ease of use - it's really simple - and the fact that it's either free or very cheap.

    Fotor

Fotor is an excellent choice if you're daunted by both Adobe Spark and Canva but still want to design your cards online. The free edition allows you to build designs that are elegant, modern, and well-organized. Although some of the templates are a touch basic, there are enough of well-designed ones to compensate.

The final quality of your cards is excellent, and using stock graphics or uploading your own photos to the site is simple. However, there are minimal editing possibilities, which might be beneficial or detrimental. It simplifies the site for users, but it also restricts alternatives, particularly when compared to competitors. Any of your cards can be downloaded to your computer, stored in the cloud, and exported to a variety of formats, including email and social media. You can decorate each one with stickers, but you won't be able to animate them because there are no options for that.

Another disadvantage is that, while Fotor is free, there are a lot of adverts serving into the page while you're producing your cards, and you're constantly prompted to upgrade to the premium version. The tutorials are located in the settings tab and are quite useful.
