  1. Lake Ohrid is a lake that spans the hilly boundary between the eastern section of Albania and the southwest corner of North Macedonia. Comprising a total area of 349 square kilometres, 118.9 of which belong to Albania, lake Ohrid is known to be one of the deepest and oldest lakes in Europe. The lake has more than 200 endemic species and a distinctive aquatic environment of global significance, owing to which Lake Ohrid has often been called a museum of living fossils. This is one of the thing that attracts many eco-tourists every year.


    Visiting Lake Ohrid, you'll have the chance to visit 2 World Heritage sites at once. UNESCO designated the northern portion of Lake Ohrid in North Macedonia as a World Heritage Site in 1979.   2. On the intersection of North Macedonia, Albania, and Greece is where you'll find Lake Prespa. This is a perfect place to visit after visiting Lake Ohrid since this lake lies in a beautiful and fertile valley just a bit away from the East of lake Ohrid. This is a system of two lakes separated by an isthmus: the Great Prespa Lake, divided between the three countries, and the Little Prespa Lake, mostly within Greece. Standing at an elevation of 853 meters, they are the highest tectonic lakes in the Balkans. T this lake occupies an area of 274 square kilometers, 49.4 sq km of which belong to Albania, and 15.6 sq km to Greece.

  3. To the west is the city of Nov Dojran, the east the village of Mouries, the north the mountain Belasica/Beles and to the south the Greek town of Doirani, we have lake Dojran. This is the smallest tectonic lake, occupies only an area of 42.7 square kilometers, of which 27.1 belong to Macedonia, and 15.6 to Greece. Being exposed to the influence of the mild sea climate of the Aegean Sea, Lake Dojran lies at an altitude of only 148 meters. Despite being the smallest tectonic lake, lake Dojran is the third largest lake partially in North Macedonia after Lake Ohrid and Lake Prespa.

  4. Lake Berovo is a freshwater lake that lies within 7 km of the North Macedonia-Bulgaria Border, near the town of Berovo. Surrounded by evergreen and deciduous type species of forests, the lake is called the "pearl of Malesevo Mountains" by locals. Many locals go to this lake with their families to swim, fish, or sail in the lake, making the lake an important part of their everyday life.

  5. Lake Bogovinje is one of 39 lakes on Šar mountains, in the Bogovinje municipality in the western part Macedonia. This is a small lake with 245m long and 210m wide. The lake is located in the rocky lakes, with a very elongated shape, with a large change in width, and with this it differs from the other lakes in the area.


    Like other lakes on Šar mountains, Lake Bogovinje takes an important role in boosting tourism in the local area.   6. Lake Debar is an artificial lake in the western portion of North Macedonia, right next to the town of Debar (just 5km away from the town). This lake has the largest amount of water in Macedonian. Visiting this lake, you can enjoy the magnificent view of the lake, while also trying so many other activities like fishing, spa treatment, etc.

    From the lake, you can witness the monastery "St. Gjorgji Pobedonosec", which is located just 2 kilometers from Debar.   7. Lake Mavrovo is located in the Mavrovo region, less than 100 km from Skopje. The lake is surrounded by the Šar Mountains on the North and the Bistra Mountains on the South, both exceeding heights of 2000m. After being a part of the Mavrovo National Park since, this lake is considered to be one of the most extensive artificial lakes in the country.
