Banzaan Fresh Market
Banzaan Market in Patong Beach is a must-see during your vacation. It's easier to get to than most local markets because it's right behind the massive Jungceylon Shopping Mall. So get your first look at some unusual Thai fruits, amazing fish, strange vegetables, and colorful sweets! Banzaan Market ('Banzaan' is Hokkien for "fresh market") is spotless. It might lack a bit of the local feel you get in other fresh markets on the island, but the food on display is of excellent quality and offers a wider variety. Banzaan is an excellent way to experience real Thailand in its early stages (you can explore more local markets later).
Banzaan Market is open all day, but it's best to come early in the morning; even at 10 or 11 a.m., the shelves are still well stocked. Later at night, the market area transforms into a massive street food market. The Banzaan Night Market is mostly about food—a lot of food! As you walk around, you'll notice a fantastic selection of seafood, including giant prawns and the famous Phuket lobsters. Choose your seafood, weigh it, and pay; someone will grill it right in front of you. It's fresh, less expensive than eating out, and a fun experience.
