OTOP Night Market
The official name of OTOP Market is OTOP Shopping Paradise, and it was originally intended as a local market to promote the handicrafts and original products of each province of Thailand. The unusual word "OTOP" stands for "One Tambon One Product" (which translates to "One District One Product"). This market is conveniently located on the second road of Patong Beach, just 750 meters from the famous Jungceylon shopping mall.
Handicraft items, Thai fashion accessories, local pottery, household items, cotton products, silk garments, and food from each of these provinces were to be promoted at the market. This intriguing concept did not last long in a city where most tourists are more interested in knock-off brands, replica designer bags, and low-cost clothing. Today's OTOP market primarily sells counterfeits, forgeries, and a plethora of useless souvenirs.
The OTOP market is now more well-known for its street food section. It's small, but it looks fun and decently good. You can order from one of the small food stands and sit at one of the small tables in front of it. It's good and cheap, and it feels like you're on vacation in Thailand. Fried chicken, grilled seafood, and the popular Pad Thai are all available.
