Kor Jaan Market

Kor Jaan (Lahd Kor Jaan in Thai) is a new night market on Kra Road, in a less-known part of east Phuket Town. Kor Jaan market appears to cater more to locals than tourists due to its remote location, but everyone is welcome to visit. This is your chance to try some authentic local cuisine, including those fried insects that are always a tourist attraction and make for an unforgettable selfie to take home.

You can either buy some local food and eat it while walking around, or you can sit at one of the super tiny tables set in the middle of the street and listen to a local singer perform. The selection is surprisingly appealing, and the market as a whole is surprisingly well prepared for COVID-19; all stores have a protective screen, and everyone wears a mask and a transparent face shield. Despite the unusual circumstances, the vendors are very friendly, and the overall atmosphere is relaxed.

If you want to eat something more formal, go to one of the many small restaurants along the street, such as Ple Beer Woon. The food is tasty and inexpensive, and they're famous for their "Beer Woon," a frozen way to serve beer that turns it into a Slurpee. It's entertaining and enjoyable, especially in hot weather, but it never fails to frighten tourists.
