Kata Night Market
Kata Night Market is not a well-known market because it is hidden in the middle of Kata Beach, roughly behind the Club Med hotel, among a maze of buildings and small hotels. In a long line of tiny stalls, the market is surprisingly large and already popular for serving all kinds of cheap food and dishes. Kata Market operates similarly to a food court: you browse the various shacks until you find something that appeals to you, order, pay, pick your food, and sit at any of the numerous tables set in the middle of the market. The same is true for beverages.
There's a lot of grilled meat on skewers, seafood, and basic Thai dishes like Pad Thai and fried rice. The fruit stalls are the most popular, particularly those serving the popular Khao Niaow Ma Muang, also known as mango sticky rice. The next most popular sweet is what visitors call banana pancakes, orroti, as it is known locally, because it is not made like a pancake at all. Because of the loud staccato required for the preparation of this fun ice cream, the frozen ice cream booth frequently draws a lot of attention. It's a cheap and enjoyable experience.
If you're feeling brave, why not go for the most extreme experience and purchase a few friendly insects? It's definitely one-of-a-kind and high in protein. For many years to come, grasshoppers, silkworms, crickets, and other creepy crawlies will be a story to tell and a photo to share with your friends. It should be noted that you cannot photograph fried insects without purchasing them. Every insect shop owner in Thailand faces this problem because tourists spend a lot of time blocking the shop without buying. There is a small "photo fee" to pay if you only want to take a photo without purchasing. That's understandable.
After you've finished eating, the night market has a large bazaar selling t-shirts and those ever-popular elephant pants that are so light and comfortable, perfect for Phuket's hot weather, and are usually sold for 100 to 150 baht.
