Big Wild Goose Pagoda
Built in 652 to house the sutras and Buddha images brought to China by Buddhist traveler Xuanzang, the Great Wild Goose Pagoda overlooks the city of Xian in the northwestern province of Shaanxi, China.
The tower was built with bricks without the use of cement. Its characteristic façade was renovated during the Ming Dynasty and after the 1556 earthquake the building began to lean noticeably to the left. A musical fountain is erected in the North Square, where spectacular light and water shows are held regularly.
The Goose Pagoda (also known as the Great Goose Pagoda), a symbol of Xi'an's ancient Zen, has well-preserved ancient buildings and is a sacred place for Buddhists. It is located in the southern suburbs of Xi'an, about 4 km (2.5 miles) from the city center. Located in the Da Sien temple complex, the temple attracts many visitors with its Buddhist significance and simple yet attractive architecture. Giant Goose Pagoda is a major cultural heirloom national sanctuary and an AAAA tourist attraction. It was also listed as a World Heritage Site on June 22, 2014 along with other historic sites along the ancient Silk Road.
