The Pagoda on Skyline Drive
Built atop Mount Penn overlooking the town of Reading, Pennsylvania, the new Skyline Drive Pagoda was built in 1908 for $50,000. Built as a hotel and restaurant, it was supposed to become the center of a luxury resort. When it failed, it was donated to the city.
Today The Pagoda on Skyline Drive has a small cafe and gift shop and has become a symbol of the city. It is listed in the US National Register of Historic Places. Here is a little-known fact. A gigantic bell, cast in Japan in 1739, hangs from the top floor inscribed with end-time prophecies.
