Chihuahua is a desert ecological zone covering an area of nearly 362,000 square kilometers. More than 90% of its area is located in the national territory of Mexico.
Chihuahua has a hot climate, is the second-largest desert in North America, and the third-largest in the Western Hemisphere region. It begins stretching from south Albuquerque, New Mexico to the north of Mexico City.
According to the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), it can be said to be the world's most biodiverse desert with 20% grassland. However, there are still no complete statistics on the species here, as well as the severe decline over time.
