Kalahari Desert
An area of more than 900,000 square km makes it the world's fifth-largest desert. The Kalahari also covers about 70% of Botswana, parts of Zimbabwe, Namibia, and the Republic of South Africa.
According to the researchers, this is not really a desert because there is only one truly arid region located in the Southwest region with an average annual rainfall of 175 millimeters. Some areas are quite erratic in rain, with a flow of about 250 millimeters or more annually, which is also a suitable breeding ground for many plant species.
In summer, the Kalahari has temperatures between 20 and 40 degrees Celsius. In winter, there is a cold and dry climate, which can have frost at night. The average temperature around the end of winter may even drop to just 0 degrees Celsius.
