The Great Basin (USA)
Top 9 in Top 10 Largest Deserts In The World
The Great Basin desert is located between Nevada and the Wasatch Range. It covers an area of 492,000 square kilometers. Its temperature includes hot dry summers and snowy winters which spans a large part of the state of Nevada, an extent into Western, Uttar, Eastern California, and Idaho.
There are more than 33 peeks within the desert, with summits higher than 3000m, and valleys are also high with elevations above 1200m. The biological communities of the Great Basin desert vary. The significant variation between valleys and peaks has created a variety of habitat niches which has, in turn, led to many small isolated populations of genetically unique plants and animal species throughout the region.
