Lake Skadar
Lake Skadar, which spans the western portion of the Balkan Peninsula that belongs to Northern Albania, was named after the city of Shkoder. It is located in the municipality of Bar and Podgorica's Zeta-Skadar Valley. The lake is a Montenegrin property and has been a managed natural reserve since 1983. The remaining area of the lake belongs to Albania. The lake was listed in 1996's Ramsar List of Wetlands of International Importance. It was proposed for UNESCO heritage designation in 2011.
The fact that Lake Skadar is located in the "crypto depression," which, to put it simply, means that a section of the lake's bottom is below sea level, is another distinctive aspect of the lake. These are also referred to as "sublacustrine springs" or simply as "eyes." Rock bays and sublacustrine springs can be found on the arid southern and southwest coastlines. It is mostly submerged in the north. Here, you can find islands like Grmozur Island, a former prison castle, and Beska Island, which has two churches. Lake Skadar is deserved as one of the most beautiful lakes in Montenegro.
