The most beautiful lake in Montenegro is Hridsko Jezero or Lake Hrid in English. It is situated in the Prokletije mountain range. The borders of Montenegro and Albania are converging here. Peshica Lake is a high mountain lake situated in northeastern Montenegro's Ivangrad District at an altitude of 1.771m (5,810ft) above sea level. Another lake situated in Berane municipality's Biogradska Gora National Park is called Lake Peshica. Four mountain peaks, Crna Glava, Zekova Glava, Borova Glava, and Triglav, all rising to a height of 1838 meters above sea level, surround this lake, providing a breathtaking view of the clouds. Bjelasica Mountain's access road to Peshica lake is entirely unpaved. It is known as Peia rupa. The lake's largest water levels occur in April and May, while its lowest levels occur in the summer, in August and September. The annual average temperature of Lake Plav ranges from 2,8 Celsius in the winter to 15,5 Celsius in the summer. During the winter, the lake frequently freezes, and this typically lasts until the end of February.

The lake's surface freezes during extremely severe winters, forming 20–30 cm of thick ice along its borders, making the region a pedestrian walkway for residents and guests of the small city of Plav.

The lake has excellent clarity, especially in the summer and in regions close to the shoreline. During the summer, Plav Lake is a highly well-liked tourist destination because of its abundance of fish, including chub, nase, trout, and pike.
