University of Genoa

The University of Genoa, usually known as UniGe, is one of the best universities in Italy. It is situated on the Italian Riviera in the Liguria region of northern Italy, in the city of Genoa and the regional Metropolitan City of Genoa. The first university was established in 1481. The University of Genoa is ranked well among European universities in a variety of computer science subjects, according to the Microsoft Academic Search 2016 rankings.


Since its founding, the University of Genoa has awarded 46 gold medals to Italian students and two gold medals to international students, namely to Israeli student Khor Hoksari in 1993 and Albanian student Agasi Bledar in 2021. It has awarded 122 honoris titles to its graduates and has been available to the public for the past 20 years.

The university is led by a rector and is divided into five schools with a total of 23 departments as of the academic year 2012-2013. The institution now has over 40,000 students, including both undergraduate and graduate students. In Genoa, the University of Genoa shares a campus with Florida International University, which is based in Miami, Florida. Students from each university's School of Architecture are hosted by the other. In 2004, the University of Genoa employed approximately 1,710 academics and scientific personnel, as well as approximately 2000 non-scientific employees, making it one of Genoa's largest employers.
