If these walls could talk, they'd tell you that becoming Miami's number one LGBTQ+ bar and restaurant was no easy task. But, after three decades of spectacular parties, including South Beach's righteous heyday as a homosexual hotspot in the 1990s, the Palace was doomed to become a legend. After all, "Every Queen Needs a Palace," and they've been home to South Florida's most spectacular entertainers and drag queens since 1988.

The Palace began catering to the city's LGBT population in the 1990s. The neighborhood had claimed the 12th Street Beach across the street as their own, and the party quickly spread, with Palace throwing T-dances in its parking lot. Designer Gianni Versace relocated to Ocean Drive, a block away from the Palace, around that time and became a regular visitor. He would often bring his celebrity buddies to dine. Stars such as Luciano Pavarotti, Elton John, Madonna, and Princess Diana were regularly seen, and Ocean Drive became a popular destination for fashion models, with fresh photoshoots and music videos being made on a daily basis.

In July of 2017, The Palace closed its doors at 1200 Ocean Drive after the building was sold to developer Steve Kassin’s Infinity Real Estate. He bought the building that houses The Palace as well as 31 residential units for over $15 million. At the time of the sale, an executive for Infinity said the company planned to “enhance the property, including improving the building’s prominence and accessibility." Donall made it clear that instead of closing temporarily during the building’s renovations, the Palace would change locations permanently.

In November of 2017, after a short hiatus, Palace Bar reopened at its new location, 1052 Ocean Drive, and is once again home to glittering queens and drag performances, and every so often you’ll spot frequent celebs such as Nene Leakes, Andy Cohen, Ross Matthews, Gus Kenworthy, Perez Hilton, and Lisa Vanderpump dining with friends. Prepare to be impressed when you enter the EDITION Miami Beach's freshly remodeled lobby. But don't get carried away. Turn left and down the steps until you reach Basement, the ultra-hip subterranean nightclub. Basement, while being just a few years old, has swiftly become one of Miami Beach's trendiest clubs. And its success is due to one large, vivid factor: personality.

The majority of nightclubs feature a dance floor. A bowling alley is not uncommon in nightclubs. The Basement, on the other hand, is not like other nightclubs. Patrons enjoy the club's four technicolor blowing lanes, which are a major draw. The lanes are open from Thursday through Saturday. While they roll, guests may enjoy beverages and music, and you can reserve your own lane on Basement's website.

Club Aqua isn’t so much a club—rather an old-school bathhouse. Does that make it any less fun? Hardly. Amenities like the dry sauna and heated pool are a bit dated but well kept, and the interior “fun rooms” are regularly sanitized. Read: You come here just clean enough to get dirty again. But at this secret Coral Way spot, you can also jam out on weekends and mingle with barely-dressed singles.

To begin with, Club Aqua is a traditional bathhouse. You come here to clean up just enough to become dirty again. On Friday evenings, though, you can groove out to DJ Just Oliver and check out some in-the-buff male dancers while also lying bare-assed at this hidden hideaway on Coral Way. This tiny venue, dubbed "an old choice made fresh,". There's a gym, a jacuzzi, a sauna, and even tropical gardens—if it has to do with water, this exclusive men's club has it covered. There's even a safe sex list on the website, so save it.

The newly refurbished Club Aqua is the old Miami Gay Sauna Body Center, which opened in 1972. The clothing-optional facility in a tropical garden setting has a gym, maze, steam, pool, jacuzzi, and sauna. Friday nights feature dancers with DJs. Membership or one-time passes allow entry to the adults-only club ($11 on weekdays, $14 on weekends, and holidays). Guests ages 18-24 only $5.
