Jahangirnagar University, which was founded in 1970 as a fully residential public university, presently comprises 36 departments, six faculties, and four institutes, with over fifteen thousand students and around 500 academics dedicated to teaching and research.   8. Chittagong University of Engineering & Technology is the successor to the former Bangladesh Institute of Technology, Chittagong, abbreviated as BIT Chittagong (CUET). It is one of the most renowned and prestigious autonomous self-degree-awarding institutes in Bangladeshi engineering education. This Institute sprang out of the Chittagong Engineering College, which was founded in 1968.
