  1. Tohoku University is a Japanese national university in Sendai, Miyagi, Japan's Tohoku Region. It was the third Imperial University in Japan, founded in 1907, and was chosen by the Japanese government as a Top Type university of the Top Global University Project. Tohoku University was ranked first in Japan's University Ranking by Times Higher Education in 2020 and 2021.


    Tohoku University was one of 13 universities chosen by the Japanese government in 2009 to contribute to international higher education, and the university launched a series of degree programs that are primarily taught in English.   2. The Tokyo Institute of Technology is a national research institution in the Greater Tokyo area. Established in 1881, it is the country's largest higher education school specializing in science and technology. The institution is divided into six schools, each having more than 40 departments and research areas. Especially, the Tokyo Institute of Technology produced a Nobel Prize laureate in Chemistry Hideki Shirakawa Ph.D.


    The Tokyo Institute of Technology Library in Ookayama is the major library. It is the largest science and technology library in Japan, founded in 1882.   3. Founded in 1877, the University of Tokyo is Japan's first national university. It contains ten faculties, fifteen graduate schools, eleven affiliated research institutes (including the Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology), thirteen university-wide centers, three primary libraries, and three institutes for advanced study.

    Students are educated in three main campuses in Hongo, Komaba, and Kashiwa, although the university has facilities all across Japan. The university offers an unusual course structure in that students spend their first two years on one site pursuing a liberal arts degree before moving to another campus to pursue their chosen major. In addition, the university has a unique museum, which is a special system of museums covering many fields, from paleontology to anthropology.   4. Kyoto University was established in 1897. It is the second oldest institution in Japan and one of the erstwhile Imperial Universities. Kyoto University has around 22,000 students, ten faculties, eighteen graduate schools, thirteen research institutes, and twenty-one research and teaching centers.
