Kardan University, founded in 2003, is a for-profit private higher-education institution located in the rural outskirts of Kabul (population range of 1,000,000-5,000,000 inhabitants). Kardan University (KU), which is officially recognized by Afghanistan's Ministry of Higher Education, is a small (enrollment range: 2,000-2,999 students) coeducational Afghan higher education institution.

Kardan University (KU) provides courses and programs that lead to officially recognized higher education degrees such as pre-bachelor degrees (i.e. certificates, diplomas, associate or foundation), bachelor degrees and master's degrees in a variety of fields of study. This 17-year-old Afghan university has a selective admission policy based on entrance examinations. This Afghan higher education organization is somewhat selective, with an admission rate of 60-70 percent. International students are encouraged to apply. KU also provides students with academic and non-academic facilities and services such as a library, sports facilities, financial aid and/or scholarships, online courses and distance learning opportunities, and administrative services.

Kardan University began operations in a small classroom with 15 students in a country where higher education was being privatized for the first time. Operations, Registrar Office, Academics, Strategy & Growth, and Financial Management are the five major pillars of Kardan University. Today, the University is a center for education, research, innovation, and public service, offering accredited graduate and undergraduate degrees in a variety of fields. At its three campuses in Kabul, it has over 4,000 students pursuing diploma, undergraduate, and graduate programs. Undergraduate courses in management sciences, information technology, engineering, and social sciences are available, as are graduate courses in business administration and international relations. Kardan has graduated over 30,000 students from various disciplines.
