Sonic Adventure
Sonic Adventure is a Sega Dreamcast platform game released in 1998 that was the first primary Sonic the Hedgehog game to incorporate 3D gameplay. It follows Sonic the Hedgehog, Miles "Tails" Prower, Knuckles the Echidna, Amy Rose, Big the Cat, and E-102 Gamma in their journey to gather the Chaos Emeralds and prevent series nemesis Doctor Robotnik from unleashing Chaos, an ancient evil. Players complete levels to advance the plot by controlling one of six characters, each with their own set of powers. Many components from previous Sonic games, like power-ups and the ring-based health system, remain in Sonic Adventure. Aside from the main game, users may engage in minigames such as racing and interact with Chao, a virtual pet.
Journalists have listed Sonic Adventure as one of the finest Sonic games, and it is regarded as a significant release in both the franchise and the platform genre. Many of the characters and ideas introduced in Adventure reappeared in later Sonic games. Sonic Adventure 2 was launched in 2001 as a sequel. The adventure was converted to the GameCube and Windows in 2003, with improved visuals and new obstacles, and a high-definition version was published in 2010 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and for Windows in 2011. These releases received less favorable reviews; critics believed the game had not aged well and played at an erratic frame rate.
