Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN)
The Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) is a Malaysian private university located 25 miles south of Kuala Lumpur. It was founded in 1976 and is owned by Tenaga Nasional Berhad, a South East Asian utility company (TNB). Previously known as the Institut Latihan Sultan Ahmad Shah (ILSAS), the center was renamed UNITEN in 1997 after becoming an institute of higher learning.
An ever-increasing number of university programs, certified by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA), include engineering, information technology, and business management. UNITEN also has 24 research centers and aspires to be the leading university in global energy.
Putrajaya Campus and Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Campus are the two campuses of the university. The former is the main campus, established in 1994, while the latter is a branch campus and the younger of the two, established in 2001. UNITEN provides students with on-campus apartments and hosts students for at least one year. The university's sports department, Team UNITEN, has trained teams for national and international university competitions. A swimming pool, a gymnasium, and a horse riding club affiliated with the Malaysian Equestrian Association are among the sports facilities available (EAM).
For its business excellence, UNITEN received The Golden Europe Award for Quality and Commercial Prestige in 2012. Notable alumni include Nurul Izzah, a member of Malaysia's Parliament for Lembah Pantai, a parliamentary constituency in Kuala Lumpur, and Najwan Halimi, who served as press secretary to Anwar Ibrahim, Malaysia's Deputy Prime Minister from 1993 to 1998.
