  1. Bazaruto is one of the four islands belonging to the Bazaruto Archipelago. The warm, southward-flowing Mozambique Current appears to be contributing to the increased accumulation of sand along the shore. Because the water along this stretch of coast is so clear, much of the island's subsurface channel pattern may be seen. On the satellite image below, many small streaks of plankton bloom parallel the coast. The Bazaruto Archipelago is home to the largest population of dugongs in Mozambique (approximately 300 animals) and is probably certainly the last viable population of dugongs remaining off the coast of East Africa. Numerous lakes and a swampy environment, which appears to be karst topography, may be seen on the coastal plains. The limestone rock that underpins the area has deteriorated into a pockmarked landscape, resulting in water-filled sinkholes.

This island is noted for its natural beauty and immensely diverse ecosystems, which you can explore and enjoy. Bazaruto is worth the trip because of its tropical climate and beautiful surroundings!

  2. The second place in the top 5 islands in Mozambique is the second largest island in Bazaruto Archipelago, Benguerra Island. It broke away from the mainland thousands of years ago. The island is 55 square kilometers in size and located 14 kilometers offshore. It was also given the name Santa Antonio by Portuguese explorers. Benguerra Island is known for its unspoiled beaches and opulent resorts that offer world-class diving and activities to visitors of all ages. Because the island is walled off from the rest of the country, you can expect to find a virtually undisturbed landscape of beaches with immaculate shoreline, crystal-clear water, and gracefully swaying palm palms, making it an even more appealing destination.

Come to Benguerra, visitors can enjoy an island nestled within a Marine National Park, with miles of beautiful white sand beaches, glistening turquoise waters crisscrossed by native dhows doing their trade, and sunny days and starry nights. This is the magical island getaway you've always dreamed of.

  3. Vilanculos Island the water sports capital of Mozambique. It's a popular beach resort location with lodging ranging from budget to five-star barefoot luxury. March to November is the dry season, with temperatures ranging from 15 to 23 degrees.

The lovely beaches around Vilanculos' coastline are ideal for horseback riding and guided treks, or guests can board a dhow (local sailing boat) for a cruise through the crystal clear waters while lunch is made on board. In the Bazaruto National Park, diving and snorkeling excursions are a necessity to witness a variety of marine wildlife such as manta rays, whale sharks, turtles, and in season, humpback whales. This is one of the few places in the world where the endangered Dugong can be found. In pure water, visibility can extend as far as 40 meters.

From October to February, deep sea fishing, particularly for Black Marlin, is a popular activity in the waters surrounding this Mozambique marine park. Visitors can also try their hand at salt-water fly fishing or catch a variety of tuna species in this location.

With a 4x4 vehicle, visitors to Vilanculos can travel inland to the Zinave National Park, which is part of Mozambique's Great Limpopo Transfrontier Conservation Area. This park is undeveloped and features a variety of habitats, including miombo forest, riverine vegetation, open bush, and even lagoons. Lions, leopards, cheetahs, and spotted hyenas are among the creatures that live here.
