  7. For around three decades, Lie Sang Bong has been like a galaxy in the Korean fashion universe. He has dressed the likes of Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Juliette Binoche, Priscilla Wong and Olympic gold medallist Yuna Kim among others. He founded his eponymous brand in 1985, which is today an internationally renowned luxury fashion label.

Lie has primarily drawn inspiration from Korea’s rich artistic and literary history with a special focus on calligraphy, known as Seoye, and the Korean script, known as Hangul. He says that he feels very proud of his Hangul fashion and it is the brand’s “trademark”. Themes based on architectural designs such as Cubism and Bauhaus are also prominent in Lie’s designs. Many pieces in his collections undergo advanced technological processing such as laser-cutting and digital printing besides traditional techniques such as embroidery.

Lie designed the LG Electronics’ limited edition Cyon Shine mobile phone in 2007, one of the first such collaborations between a fashion designer and a mobile phone company. He also designed the uniforms for the A1 Grand Prix Korean national team in 2008. He holds a special place in influential Korean culture which is evident from the fact that he has also served as the president of Council of Fashion Designers of Korea (CFDK) and the cultural ambassador of Seoul.

His brand debuted at New York Fashion Week in 2014 with Fall/Winter collection, which came after it spent 12 years displaying its high-end clothing in Paris. His Spring/Summer 2018 collection is an eclectic mix of pink, blue, black and white with dots, prints and leather as highlights. The collection also pays homage to early 20th century Chinese Qi Baishi with dresses like the black-and-white long jacket and organza long blouse, inspired by his art. Lie’s legacy is being carried forward by his children, Chung Chung Lee and Nana Lee, who founded the affordable fashion wear label LIE in 2011 as a breakaway line.

    Hyein Seo

Hyein Seo's bachelor collection debuted at New York Fashion Week for the VFiles Made Fashion presentation while she was studying at the famous Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. Seo launched her eponymous line in 2014, following her graduation. Seo is one of the most well-known South Korean designers in the world because to the counterculture elements in her designs and the way they appeal to young people going from adolescence to adulthood.

Rihanna wore a black-and-white fur stole from her Fear line to the Comme des Garçons Fall/Winter 2014 catwalk show at Paris Fashion Week the same year she debuted her business. When she performed at the 2014 MTV Movie Awards, the singer immediately followed it up with a Hyein Seo jacket from the same collection.

Seo is inspired by what she refers to as "bad girls" in popular culture. Lady Vengeance Fall/Winter 2016, one of her collections, is named after the Park Chan-wook film Sympathy for Lady Vengeance, and contains jackets and long coats with the words "rage," "provoke," "sinner," and "punishment" – themes of the film — emblazoned on them. Then there's the Final Boss Fall/Winter 2017 collection, which featured motifs inspired by video game character Chun Li from the Street Fighter series and Wong Kar Wai's film 2046.

Her inventions, such as the garter belt bag that can contain smokes, vinyl biker leggings, and cut-out spandex tops, have garnered her a "tough girl" image. The label is unisex, with things like giant sweatshirts, baggy jeans, crop tops, and miniskirts, and its fans include Kendrick Lamar, Bella Hadid, and G-Dragon.

Her most recent collections, White Noise Spring/Summer 2019 and Save Yourself Fall/Winter 2019, are geared at the savvy of Seoul's modern youth. The Fall/Winter 2020 collection features monochrome technical designs such as hooded pilot bomber jackets, extended parkas, cropped windbreakers, and more.

  9. Sunyuul Yie founded Yuul Yie in 2010 under the moniker Ma Vie En Rose before altering it to Yuul Yie. The handmade shoe firm is recognized for its unique heels and sculpture-like shoe patterns. In reality, Yuul Yie's heels are what set her apart from the crowd. The heels are produced in a variety of geometric shapes and designs inspired by cubes, stones, corals, and the Arabic alphabet. Consider the Trophy 70mm leather sandals, which have a mid-high block heel that resembles a sphere atop a cuboid. Or the Lemon 'Doreen slingback' shoes, which have a stiletto point made of a pearl. The brand's most well-known model is its distinctive Y-shaped trapezoid thick heel.

Its lines range from mules to pumps, with intricate design on each. The leather is from Italy, while the shoes are produced in Seoul. Yuul Yie shoes are available in several luxury boutiques in the UK, Italy, France, and the United States, including Harvey Nichols, Nordstrom, and Luisaviaroma.

In 2015, Yie, who studied women's fashion at Esmod Seoul, debuted a second line, YY by Yuul Yie. YY produces more accessible items whereas Yuul Yie continues to cater to the high-end luxury footwear industry. Yie has also ventured into jewelry and handbags.

    The Volon

Eujung Jang, often known by her initials E.J., founded the premium handbag business in 2013 and debuted its first collection in Paris that same year. E.J., who graduated in music, also learnt the business of architecture at her family's interior design firm before founding the brand. This education served as the foundation for her ideas and the creation of handbags with structural shapes and eye-catching colors.

The brand's name is derived from the phrase "Le volonté de tous" by 18th-century Genevan philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau, which means "the will of all." The bags come in metallic, pastel, and primary colors inspired by the works of modern artists like Cecily Brown.

The Volon has been influenced by Korean tradition and components of its culture. The 'Cindy Flower' purse is inspired by the Hanbok outfit. The 'Gabi' from its Spring/Summer 2020 Resort collection, on the other hand, is inspired by the Korean traditional shell-shaped fortunate bag. The Volon is available at high-end shops like as Net-a-Porter and Farfetch. Influencers such as Miroslava Duma, Leandra Medine, and Gilda Ambrosio, to name a few, have also endorsed it.
