  3. The Lao National Institute of Tourism and Hospitality (Lanith) is the country's primary hospitality training provider, with support from the Lao-Luxembourg Development Cooperation. To that purpose, the Lanith Centre in Luang Prabang opened the balcony bar and restaurant, which received a lot of positive feedback. The balcony, which is both an educational institution and a social enterprise, reinvests all revenues back into the community. The menu is a Laos-French fusion that incorporates the freshest ingredients available locally.

Pit Wanderschied, a Michelin-starred chef with extensive expertise in Europe, crafts delectable fine dining Laos-French fusion meals while also teaching Laos workers to the highest standards. Everything is sourced locally, and the freshest foods are used on a daily basis. The food is diverse, and the wine/spirit selection is large, including beer for us Aussies.

The balcony is off the usual path, despite its proximity to downtown Luang Prabang. Blue glasses, blue lighting at the bar, and blue paper lanterns at the table are just a few of the restaurant's modest yet imaginative elements. It's completely spick-and-span.

  8. Laos' Benoni Café is a restaurant. Benoni Café is conveniently located near Phimphone and Joma. This cafe is a trendy little eatery located above the Phimphone Market and next to the Nam Phou Fountain. Benoni Cafe is a popular meeting and eating spot, no doubt because it is located on the popular stretch of Setthathirath Road, and since the cuisine is both tasty and affordable. The upper appears to be a restaurant and works as such, however the downstairs, which is part of Phimphone Epicerie, is more cafeteria-style.

Benoni is known for its economical but tasty lunch menu, which includes pesto, pad thai, and hand-crafted burgers, as well as its tempting menu of home-baked cakes and locally roasted coffee, which is frequently recognized as the best in town.

Benoni offers the refreshing spirit of European cafe culture to Laos' eating scene with its airy, laid-back ambience.

  10. With its friendly staff, superb Italian cuisine, and vast wine selection, Villa Opera attracts both locals and tourists. This long-running restaurant is housed in a renovated French colonial villa from the 1930s, complete with period-appropriate décor and furnishings.

Pino, the restaurant's owner and host, is cheerful and eager to introduce guests to Villa Opera's specialties, which include the Pizza Laos (tomatoes, cheese, chilies, and Laos sausage), ravioli with tomato and cream sauce, and tiramisu. Excellent exquisite restaurant in an antique French colonial mansion that has been completely renovated while maintaining its historical status. The decor is nice, and the staff is polite and speaks English. Traditional Italian cuisine is available on a large menu. Pizza is made with true traditional napoletean owen. It is run by a Roman Italian who has lived in Laos for over 25 years.
