  1. The Agostinho Neto University (UAN) is Angola's largest state university, with campuses in Luanda and the adjacent city of Talatona. The institution ministered 68 license courses in the academic year 2005–06: 18 Bachelor's degrees and 15 Master's degrees, involving areas of scientific knowledge in faculties, institutes, and higher learning schools. It is one of Angola's seven public (state-owned) universities. Agostinho Neto University was the country's only public university until 2009, with campuses in all of the country's main cities. It was divided up in 2009, with its campuses outside of Luanda establishing six independent universities. UAN is presently one of seven regional universities servicing Luanda and Bengo provinces, among others. It is still the largest university in Angola.


    After Angola's independence from Portugal in 1975, the school's first aim was to train secondary school teachers in order to help the government achieve its goal of expanding post-primary education.   2. The Catholic University of Angola (UCAN) is a Catholic university located in Luanda, Angola's capital. The government of Angola granted the Angolan Catholic Church permission to build its own university on August 7, 1992. It began teaching on February 22, 1999, after receiving authorisation from the Episcopal Conference. It is a private university and one of only 12 recognized private universities in the United States. The "magno chanceler" is Msgr. Manuel Imbamba, and the rector is Father Vicente Cauchi.


    It had roughly 6,000 students enrolled in 2012. Although English as a second language (ESL) is provided, sessions are held in Portuguese. Social sciences, economics, law, and engineering are the four departments that have been established.


    Many countries, most notably the United States, but also Portugal, South Africa, Norway, Spain, and Italy, have contributed to the university's development through private business aid and non-governmental organizations.   5. Katyavala Bwila University (UKB) is an Angolan public multi-campus university based in the city of Benguela. The university emerged from the dismemberment of the Benguela campus of Universidade Agostinho Neto in the midst of the reforms in Angolan higher education that took place in 2008 and 2009. Its area of operation is restricted to the province of Benguela.

    The university honors King Katyavala Bwila I. This king is credited with founding the Bailundo Kingdom on the outskirts of the Halavala Mountains, in the Angolan Central Plateau region.


    The historical tradition of the UKB is intertwined with the creation of the "Instituto Superior de Ciências da Educação de Benguela". This was announced by President José Eduardo dos Santos in August 1992, after a request from a high school commission in Benguela, when he was visiting that city. After that, the provincial education delegate João Evangelista Basílio sent the document entitled "Project of the University Center of Benguela" to the Ministry of Education. On September 1, 1992, the minister António Burity da Silva Neto authorized the creation of the Centro Universitário de Benguela.

  6. Established in 1963 and named after the late Kwanyama King Mandume ya Ndemufayo, Mandume ya Ndemufayo University (UMN) is a public university in Lubango, Angola. The institution arose from the dismantling of the Agostinho Neto University's Lubango campus during the Angolan higher education reforms of 2008 and 2009. Its operating region is limited to the provinces of Hula and Namibia.


    The creation of the "General University Studies of Angola" is connected with the UMN's historical tradition (initiated in Luanda in 1962). The formation of a campus in Lubango (formerly Sá da Bandeira) was promulgated on August 5, 1963, with the goal of broadening its scope. Campus classes, on the other hand, would not commence until November 4 of the same year, with the start of the Pedagogical Sciences course.
