  1. Great War Island is a river island located in Belgrade, Serbia's capital. It is situated near the confluence of the rivers Sava and Danube. The island is part of Belgrade City proper and belongs to the city municipality of Zemun, despite the fact that it is deserted.

The island is relatively close to the banks, being only 200 meters (660 feet) from both New Belgrade and Kalemegdan at their closest points. The fragment of Little War Island lies halfway between Great War Island and Ue in the south.

    The Great War Island
is roughly triangular, with a total size of 2.11 km2 (0.81 sq mi). It's low, mostly marshland, and frequently inundated by the Danube. The Veliki Galija Canal is the island's most prominent physical feature. It's a relic of the canal where sediments built the first barrier island, which later merged into one. The canal was eventually closed off from the Danube and effectively turned into a lake, covering 0.24 km2 (0.09 sq mi) and serving as the island's primary natural bird and fish spawning place. Mali Galija, a tiny marsh nearby, served as an ideal natural spawning place. During drought years, however, the lake fully disappears, inflicting damage to the closed ecosystem that surrounds it. Veliki Galija was eventually restored, but Mali Galija had become fully overgrown. Currently, two-thirds of the island is used as a wildlife reserve for 196 bird species, many of which are threatened with extinction. Lido, one of Belgrade's beaches, is located on the island's northern point. According to everyone, it is considered one of the most beautiful islands in Serbia.

  2. Fisherman's Island the little but delightful 'island' (actually a peninsula) is a great place for a Danube-side picnic or a leisurely stroll. More restaurants, hotels, and splavovi (river-barge nightclubs) are appearing all the time, but it's still a low-key city retreat for those in the know for the time being.

When the tide is very low, you can cross to the Fisherman's Island from the western end of the trand; otherwise, take a taxi (about 300RSD) from the center.

  3. Ada Meica is a city island and a district of Belgrade, Serbia's capital. It's in the Novi Beograd municipality of Belgrade. Ada Meica is a river island in the Sava River that is 1.5 kilometers long and 200 meters broad, with a total area of 13.4 hectares (33 acres). It is located approximately north of the Ada Ciganlija, which is much larger. With its beautiful landscape, it is considered as one of the most beautiful islands in Serbia

The island is wooded with 250 wildly grown oak trees, the most of which date from the 1920s and are between 50 and 100 years old. Between 2015 and 2017, 2,500 peduncle oak and ash seedlings were planted across the island. The woodland used to be a haven for sparrows, mallards, and pigeons, but by the 2010s, the expanding population of crows had nearly wiped them out. The island is home to two big flocks of wild geese, which are a popular tourist attraction. Blue tits, woodpeckers, pheasants, collared doves, herons, jays, and hen harriers are among the island's other birds.

Although Ada Meica has no permanent residents, it does have 87 weekend stilt houses and 202 houseboats owned by Belgrade residents. The stilt house or houseboat can be up to 25 m2 in size (270 sq ft). Solar panels provide the necessary electricity. Water was piped in from the Sava riverbed, and a five-tap mini-waterworks was constructed on the island. Over 2,000 Belgrad residents spend weekends on Ada Meica, which is only accessible by small boats, including the seasonal boat line from Block 44, during the summer. Because the area is practically untouched and devoid of touristic facilities, swimming, walking, and barbecuing are popular pastimes. Only the island's eastern, upstream tip is concreted to prevent erosion.

  4. The Kredin Island, also known as Kredinska Ada, is a river island in Serbia. It's in the municipality of Inija, Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, on the left side of the Danube, across from the settlement of Kredin. The uninhabited island is part of the "Koviljsko-Petrovaradinski Rit" Special Natural Reserve. It's one of the Podunavlje's greatest remaining natural pastures, noted for traditional cattle breeding with only minor human intervention. Fresh water and grass abound on the island. It is also wooded, primarily by willows, some of which date back to the 1810s.

Common carp, northern pike, Prussian carp, and sterlet reproduce in abundance in the arm that connects the island to the mainland. The island of Kredin is home to one of Europe's major breeding grounds for common carp. Storks, herons, mallards, and cormorants are among the island's residents. There are 172 bird species on the island, with 103 of them being classified as uncommon. White-tailed eagle, great white heron, black stork, Eurasian eagle-owl, and saker falcon are among them.

The Dunavac partially dries up during the hot summers and low water levels, making the island accessible by bicycle. Wild creatures such as deer, jackals, and wild boars cross the natural bridge to access the island, albeit infrequently.

The Kredin Island is part of the Koviljsko-Petrovaradinski Rit Special Natural Reserve, a wetland along the Danube. From May to September, the municipality arranges photo safari-style visits to the island. They are designed as one-day outings for small groups of visitors.
