  1. Utigord Waterfall is unofficially listed by several publications as the third-tallest waterfall in the world. On the other hand, the World Falls Database, a waterfall enthusiast website, lists all small and seasonal waterfalls across the country and ranks it as the 11th tallest waterfall. The waterfall is located on Mount Ramnefjellet in the municipality of Stryn in the county of Vestland in Norway, about 10 km southeast of the towns of Loen and Olden. The Cascade Horsetail Falls has four drops that are 818 meters (2684 ft) long, the longest being 405 meters (1329 ft). The average width of the waterfall is 15 meters (49 feet), spanning 457 meters (1,499 feet) from top to bottom. The average flow of the falls is 1 cubic metre per second (35 cu ft/s), with the best flow in the summer.

The falls are fed by the Ramnefjellbreen glacier, an arm of the great Jostedalsbreen glacier. After the falls, the water flows into the lake Lovatnet. The falls are easily reached by boat, seaplane, or road, and a campsite is located within hiking distance of the base of the falls. The total drop is 818 meters (2,684 ft) from three free leaping cascades. Due to its low flow, it is one of the few large waterfalls in Norway that are not designed for hydroelectric power.
Mount Ramnefjellet was hit by major landslides in 1905 and 1936 that killed more than 100 people. A photo of a waterfall taken on Lake Robertnett in 2008 was included in the Emirates Skywards brochure.

It measures approximately 36 feet/11 meters and 68 feet/21 meters in height. It is the most charming and beautiful place.

A crevice about 20 meters (66 feet) wide and 2.5 kilometers (1.6 miles) long runs perpendicular to the flow of the river. The average amount of water flowing down the falls is 141 cubic meters (5,000 cubic feet) per second in summer and 80 cubic meters (2,800 cubic feet) per second in winter. The largest flood measured was 2,000 cubic meters (71,000 cubic feet) per second.
There has been much speculation about the use of Gullfoss for power generation during the early and late 20th centuries. During this period, owners Thomas Tomasson and Halldor Haldorsson indirectly leased the waterfall to foreign investors. Investors' attempts, however, failed in part due to lack of funds. Later, the waterfall was sold to Iceland and is now protected.

Thomas Tomasson's daughter, Sigridur Thomasdottir, was determined to save the condition of the falls, and she even threatened to drop herself. Although widely known, the very popular story that Sigridur saved the waterfall from her exploits is not true. [EDIT] A stele to Sigridur above the waterfall depicts her profile.

Gullfoss is one of Iceland's most popular tourist attractions. Along with the geysers of Thingvellir and Haukadalur, Gullfoss is part of the Golden Circle, a popular day trip for Icelandic tourists.

  6. Niagara Falls is a group of three waterfalls located in the southern part of the Niagara Gorge, on the border of Ontario, Canada and New York, USA. The largest of the three is Horseshoe Falls, also known as the Canadian Falls, located on the border of the two countries. The smaller American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls are located in the United States. Bridal Veil Falls is separated from American Falls by Horseshoe Falls and Luna Island by Goat Island, two islands in New York City.

Formed by the Niagara River, which flows from Lake Erie to Lake Ontario, this combined waterfall has the highest flow velocity in North America, with a vertical drop of over 50 m (160 ft). During peak daytime sightseeing hours, more than 168,000 m3 (5.9 million cubic feet) of water passes over the top of the waterfall every minute. Horseshoe Falls are the most powerful waterfalls in North America in terms of flow rates. Niagara Falls is famous for its beauty and is a valuable source of hydroelectric power. Balancing recreational, commercial, and industrial uses has been a challenge for waterfall managers since the 19th century.

Niagara Falls is located 27 kilometers (17 miles) northwest of Buffalo, New York and 69 kilometers (43 miles) southeast of Toronto, between sister cities Niagara Falls, Ontario and Niagara Falls, New York. Niagara Falls was formed as the glaciers retreated at the end of the Wisconsin Ice Age (the Last Ice Age), and the waters of the newly formed Great Lakes made their way across the Niagara Cliffs into the Atlantic Ocean.

  7. Kaieteur Falls is the world's largest single drop waterfall in terms of the amount of water flowing through it. Situated on the Potaro River in Kaieteur National Park, it is part of the Amazon rainforest, which is part of Guyana's Potaro-Siparuni region. Its height is 226 meters (741 feet), measuring over sandstone and conglomerate to the first cliff. It then passes through a series of steep waterfalls that, if included in the measurements, total 251 meters (822 feet). Many waterfalls are tall, but few have the same height and volume of water, and Kaieteur is one of the most powerful waterfalls in the world, with an average flow rate of 663 cubic meters per second (23,400 cubic feet per second).

Kaieteur Falls is about 4.5 times the height of Niagara Falls on the Canadian-US border and about twice the height of Victoria Falls on the Zambia-Zimbabwe border in Africa. This is a waterfall of just one drop. From Falls upwards, the Potaro Plateau runs up to the secluded cliffs of the Pakaraima Mountains. The Potaro River flows into the Essequibo River, one of the longest and widest rivers in South America and the longest in Guyana.

  9. Iguazu Falls or Iguazu Falls is a waterfall on the Iguazu River on the border of the Argentinian states of Misiones and the Brazilian states of Paran. Together they make up the largest waterfall system in the world. The waterfall divides the river into an upstream and downstream Iguazu. The Iguazu River originates near downtown Curitiba. On most courses, the river flows through Brazil. However, most waterfalls are on the Argentine side. The lower Iguazu River, where it joins the San Antonio River, forms the border between Argentina and Brazil.

The name Iguazu comes from the Guarani or Tupi words "y" [ɨ] meaning "water" and "ûasú" [waˈsu] meaning "great". According to legend, God planned to marry a beautiful woman named Naipi. She escaped in a canoe with her mortal lover Taroba. An enraged god cut the river, created a waterfall, and plunged the lovers into an eternal fall. The first European to document the existence of the waterfall was the Spanish conquistador Alvar Nunez Cabeza de Vaca in 1541.
