The Lion King (1994)
The Lion King, one of Disney's all-time classics, has been remade several times. Nothing compares to the animated original from 1994. This unique coming-of-age story follows baby lion Simba, who is led into exile by his envious uncle Scar, and grows up in the jungle with new friends Timon (a meerkat) and Pumba (a warthog). But one day, Simba's destiny knocks, and he must decide if he is brave enough to answer the summons.
The album was released on CD and audio cassette on May 31, 1994. The soundtrack was recorded in three countries: the United States, the United Kingdom, and South Africa. With nearly 7 million copies sold, it is the best-selling soundtrack CD of an animated film in the United States, with 4,934,000 copies sold in 1994. On June 24, 2014, an enhanced version of The Lion King soundtrack was published as part of the Walt Disney Records: The Legacy Collection series, comprising 30 minutes of previously recorded material. Hot Topic published a vinyl picture disc of the music in 2014.
