Al-Farabi Kazakh National University also called KazGU or KazNU, is a university in Almaty, Kazakhstan. It is one of the country's largest colleges, named for the Eastern philosopher and scholar al-Farabi. KazNU is the Republic's oldest classical university, founded on November 13, 1933. According to the QS World University Rankings, KazNU is ranked 207th among the world's finest universities.
The government designated it as a "national" university in 2001. KazNU is home to around 20,000 undergraduates, postgraduates, and PhD students, as well as over 2500 academic members, including 400 doctors of science, professors, and over 800 candidates of science and associate professors. It is highly centralized, as are other universities built under the Soviet system.
Al-Farabi Kazakh National University was ranked among the world's top 500 universities in 2021. With a campus of 100 hectares in one of Almaty's most attractive neighborhoods, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University is Kazakhstan's largest university. The Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University is one of Central Asia's most prestigious educational institutions. It is located in Almaty, Kazakhstan, in the middle of the city. Abai University had a record enrollment of over 23,000 students in 2003, the majority of them were from Kazakhstan and other Central Asian nations. On September 1, 1928, the first Kazakh institute of higher learning, Kazakh State University, was established. It had a single pedagogical faculty with three divisions: physico-mathematics, natural sciences, and linguistic studies.
It was believed that three more faculties would be created: pedagogical, agricultural, and medical. From 1932 to 1933, they were obliged to work. The newly opened institute of higher education has opted to expand as an autonomous pedagogical college in order to support the intensive development of folk education. As a result, the university was renamed Kazakh State Pedagogical College (KAZPI) in 1930, Abai State University in 1935, and finally, Abai University in 1989, when it expanded its subjects of study to include more than technical education. Today's Abai University began as a Women's School in a tiny one-story structure in Vernenskoy.

Nazarbayev Institution (NU) is a self-governing research university in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan's capital. It is an English-medium institution with an international faculty and staff, and was founded in 2010 (June) on the initiative of Kazakhstan's first President, Nursultan Nazarbayev.
The NU Center for Preparatory Studies offers a one-year rigorous foundation education for Nazarbayev University bachelor's degree programs. The curriculum provides extensive academic, scientific, and linguistic competency preparation for Nazarbayev University's undergraduate programs. Satbayev University is a Kazakhstani technical university in Almaty. The university is Kazakhstan's oldest technical university, with ten institutions and 27 departments. In the 1930s, higher technical education was stressed in order to enhance the technical and economic state of the national economy.
The Kazakh Mining and Metallurgical Institute (KazMMI) was founded on October 20, 1933, by a resolution of the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR "On personnel training for Kazakhstan," with two faculties: mining and non-ferrous metals, in Alma-Ata, Kazakhstan's capital.

S. Toraighyrov Pavlodar State University (PSU) was founded in May 1960 by S. Toraighyrov. In S.Toraighyrov, 47 master's degree programs and four PhD programs are offered (PSU). In the maintenance of an educational program of discipline, modules are joined in modules, and each module produces necessary skills according to the Dublin descriptors on education levels. Training in a master's degree and PhD studies is conducted on modular educational programs. The Kazakh National Agrarian University is a prestigious university in Almaty, Kazakhstan, that educates agriculture specialists.
The Veterinary Institute was established in 1929 to train veterinarians and zoological engineers of many disciplines, including astrakhan, poultry, horse breeding, and other specialties. The Veterinary-Zootechnical Institute was established shortly after the educational institution was reformed. It was renamed the Alma-Ata Zooveterinary Institute in 1933.
The Kazakh Agricultural Institute (KazAI) was established in Alma-Ata in 1930. Kazakh-British Technical University, or KBTU, is a research and educational institution based in Almaty. It was established in 2001. The primary sectors of Kazakhstan's economy include oil and gas, information technologies, banking and finance, management, and telecommunications, and KBTU's research is concentrated on these areas.
The Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology in the United States has recognized KBTU as the first and only Kazakhstani institution with internationally approved IT programs. It is also the first and only Kazakhstani university to be accredited by the Institution of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology in the United Kingdom for its oil and gas studies.

For 75 years, the Kazakh Ablai Khan University of International Relations and World Languages (KAUIR&WL, Kazakh Ablai Khan University) has given foreign language education, replacing the Almaty Pedogogical Teacher's Institute of Foreign Languages.
The history of Kazakhstan's Ablai Khan University of International Relations and World Languages is intertwined with the country's foreign language education. In 1941, it was founded during the Soviet period, and after acquiring university status, it began a new chapter in its history. There were 231 pupils in the class when it started (113 in Faculty of English, 97 in German language, 21 in French language).

The university was founded in 1966 as Aktobe State Pedagogical Institute, but due to a reorganization in 2013, it was given its current name. Today, K.Zhubanov Aktobe Regional State University (also known as ARSU) is one of West Kazakhstan's most prestigious regional universities. ARSU provides 54 undergraduate programs and 13 graduate programs in physics and mathematics, accounting and finance, economics, law, management, education, and psychology, among other subjects.
